LMTA Yearbook


The Lubbock Music Teachers Association hosts many events throughout the year for students to participate. For more detailed information about the events, refer to the yearbook (2018 -2019 Yearbook .)


Hymn Festival - Elisa Adams, Chairperson - November 10, 2018 -  Piano students prepare to play with music, two or more hymns for adjudication. Pupils will be graded Superior, Excellent, Very Good or Good. Certificates will be awarded to each participant.
LMTA Piano Competition - Ya-Li Pekowski, Chairperson - February 16, 2019 - Piano students prepare by memory, according to their current school grade level, one movement of a sonatina or sonata from the Contest Literature List. They compete for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards and receive a critique and a ribbon. 1st place winners perform on the Winners Recital in Hemmle Hall at TTU the following day.
LMTA Piano Festival - Linda King, Chairperson - February 16, 2019 - Piano students prepare one sonatina or sonata movement of their own choice for adjudication and receive a critique and a ribbon.


Student Affiliate Programs

TMTA Student Affiliate is an organization of students of TMTA teachers. TMTA-SA provides an integrated curriculum including performance opportunities, ensemble participation, testing in music theory, development of skills in music composition, and study of music history.  Students who participate in TMTA-SA activities earn points that contribute toward significant awards.  


Student Affiliate Recitals

Both vocal and instrumental performances are welcome


All Boys' Recital - Whitney Barron, Chairperson - October 20, 2018 - For boys only. Students perform one piece by memory (no music allowed).
Jazz, Pop & Rock Recital - Lisa Langford, Chairperson - January 26, 2019 - For all students. Students prepare jazz, pop or rock-style selections. Students perform one piece by memory.
Wee Folk Recital - Pat Anthony, Chairperson - March 2, 2019 - For students K-3rd grade. Students perform one piece by memory.
Duets & Ensembles Recital - Amy Andrus, Chairperson - April 13, 2019 - Students perform ensemble pieces. All instruments are welcome. Music may be used.


Other Student Affiliate Programs


Whitlock Theory Test - Rosetta Springer and Linda King, Chairpersons - November 17, 2018 and February 2, 2019 - The Whitlock Theory Test is a comprehensive test designed for music students in grades 1-12. Medals are awarded to students for scores of 90% and above. Sample tests are available at:
World of Music - Elisa Adams, Chairperson - March 7, 2019 - World of Music is designed to teach music history. There is no theory requirement. Study materials are available from the TMTA office. Students scoring 90% or above are awarded medals.
Ensemble - TBD, Chairperson - - Student affiliate members who have passed the appropriate state theory test may participate in the convention ensemble program. Ensembles are composed of duet teams playing on multiple pianos, and other instruments are sometimes used. Ensemble groups perform at the Texas Music Teachers' Association Convention in June each year. Ensembles often appear in costume. All ensemble members must perform by memory.
District Performance Contest - Lora Deahl, Chairperson - February 8, 2019 - A contestant must be a Student Affiliate and must have taken and passed the Whitlock Theory Test that year before entering this contest.  From District, two contestants are chosen to advance to state competition at the TMTA Convention.
